Wesley Chu gave his first public performance
shortly after his third birthday. At four-years-old,
he was the youngest person in the 100-year history of the
Royal Academy of Music to pass Grades One through Nine in
one year. Many have compared him to Mozart, who started
writing his own music at age five - Chu composed at four.
He has played for prestigious audiences around the world,
including Queen Elizabeth II and Pope John Paul II and has
appeared on Bill Cosby's Kids Say The Darndest Things and
The Rosie O'Donnell Show in the U.S. Now just eight,
he boasts a personal manager, his own Web site, and a record
deal in the making - not bad for a little guy who still collects
Pokémon cards.
Alexandre Despatie, Quebec's fearless diving wonder, caused
a sensation at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia. In a stunning victory, he edged out older
competitors to win the gold medal in the 10-metre platform
event and became the youngest person in history to win gold
at the Commonwealth Games. He began diving at the age
of five in his family's pool in Laval, Quebec. At eight,
he won his first Canadian junior championship. Now 14,
he trains 32 hours a week, and contends with injuries and
a growth spurt that has disrupted his diving. But he's
more determined than ever to compete for Canada at this year's
summer Olympics in Sydney as Canada's youngest Olympic 10-metre
diver ever.
Estella Warren also had a promising Olympic career in the
pool but she decided to grab the brass ring and forgo the
Atlanta Olympics to pursue a modelling career. Ten years of
discipline and single-minded focus as a synchronized swimmer
had laid the groundwork for this highly calculated step into
an even larger spotlight. Warren's meteoric modelling
career began four years ago when a talent agent spotted her
at a high-school fashion show. Suddenly, she was in
demand around the globe - appearing in Vogue, Mademoiselle
and Cosmopolitan. At 19, she became the new face of
Chanel No. 5, following in the footsteps of such modelling
icons as Catherine Deneuve and Lauren Hutton. Now just
21, her face is worth a fortune and she's working harder than
ever, determined to stay on top in the ruthless world of glamour.
