Edwin Alonzo Boyd: gentleman bank robber?
Boyd's shocking confessions

“I did a few things that could have got me hung...” - Edwin Alonzo Boyd

This chilling confession from Edwin Alonzo Boyd forever destroys the image of the daring gentleman bank robber with the matinee idol looks. Life and Times reveals shocking new information about the leader of the infamous Boyd Gang, whose exploits enthralled and terrorized Toronto in the early 50’s, making headlines across the country. The new revelations unmask Boyd as an ego-driven psychopath whose own words connect him to unsolved crimes committed half a century ago.

The biography features extensive interviews with Boyd in the months prior to his death in May of this year. For the first time, his ex-wife, his daughter and his adopted son speak out about Boyd and their painful years with Canada’s most famous bank robber.

The Boyd Gang twice escaped from the notorious Don Jail, leading to the largest manhunt in Canadian history. The gang enjoyed folk-hero status until a Toronto policeman was shot down and killed in the street. Two gang members were hanged for that murder and Boyd was sentenced to eight life terms for his robberies and jail breaks.

After his release from Kingston Penitentiary 36 years ago, Boyd – on lifetime parole – was given a new identity and relocated near Victoria, British Columbia. He re-married and devoted himself to caring for his invalid wife and her handicapped friend. In his final years, Boyd lead a seemingly exemplary life – in line with his popular image as the "gentleman" bank robber.
