We here at CBC Life are just as excited as you about Canada's 150th birthday. So in the month leading up to July 1, we're showcasing some of our country's amazing hidden gems from coast to coast: totally Instagram-worthy food, tiles too pretty to *not* shoot, crazy views and more. #CanadaGem  #CBClife

There's no denying Canada's architectural prowess. We've got hundreds of picturesque bridges, unique sites filled with artful tiled floors, elaborate music venues and even buildings dating back to the 1600s!

But nothing illuminates our country's structural beauty quite like the ceilings that hang over our heads. Apart from being totally Insta-worthy due to their intricate detailing and ornate fixtures, they act as a visual history of Canada, instantly transporting us back to the era in which they were crafted while reminding us just how much history there is in our relatively young nation.

From breathtaking historical churches to state of the art parliament buildings, here's a look at some of the most exquisite ceilings across Canada. Trust us, you'll want to take a moment to gaze up at every last one of them.
