Make a trendy felt message board for a retro way to say all the things
A perfect way to add vintage-vibes to your home — plus awesome puns and friendly roommate reminders.
Get on board with this fab felt message board — the perfect way to elegantly display inspiring quotations, song lyrics, affirmations, or inside jokes with your roommate! It's versatile, simple to construct, and provides a classy vintage touch to your interior décor — or as a trendy backdrop to spice up your Instagram feed. Add one to your kitchen to lend it a retro 1950's vibe. All that's missing are the burgers and milkshakes!
Here's what you need:
- 12 strips of balsa wood – 5 mm thick, 61 cm long
- Black felt – 92 cm x 31 cm
- Picture frame – 23 cm x 28 cm, and at least 2 cm deep
- Industrial glue
- White changeable letters
Here's how to do it:
Cut wood into sections: 2 pieces that are 25 cm long, and 34 pieces that are 20 cm long.
Glue two 25 cm pieces to two 20 cm pieces to create a rectangular frame.
At the narrow end, glue another 20 cm piece just 3 mm up from the bottom. Continue until you've covered the whole frame with 20 cm "slats".
Using a ruler, tuck and fold the felt into the gaps between the slats – creating a pleated look. Repeat this process until all the slats contain felt. Cut the excess fabric off the sides.
Take your picture frame and remove the glass. Place the board inside the frame – the felt facing out where the glass would be. Reattach the back of the frame.
Arrange your changeable letters as desired!
And there you have it – a charming way to add some witty quips to your household, or that meaningful quote that always keeps your chin up. Enjoy!
