I just ran into LOL producer, Tracy Rideout, in the hall. She reminded me that The Academy Awards are on this coming Sunday. Why didn't I know this? OK, don't sweat it...now I do.

So, I checked the nominees list. This is revealing, but the only movie I've seen is Toy Story 3. Yes, I am a father. Usually the only movies I ever see are the animated ones.

Have I lost complete touch with Hollywood's cultural contributions? I'm thinking so. Where did it all go so wrong? Sure, I'm not a big fan of awards shows, but the fact that I haven't seen any of these films yet really makes me think that I'm not nearly as cool as I thought I was. It's not that I even have anything specifically against the Hollywood machine! I just always find myself otherwise occupied.

I like to think that I've just been so disappointed by movies that get over-hyped (American Beauty) and turn out to be..um...less than something I like. Yeah, that's why I don't go out of my way to go to the movies.

Really, though, it's usually because I'm too tired.
