Oh Ricky you're so fine, you're so fine you blew their minds!

OK, so I know it's a few days after the fact, but I'm a stickler for continuity so I have to write about the Golden Globes and Ricky Gervais. To be honest, I was a bit surprised he was asked to host the award show again this year - last year he was pretty funny, but to be asked back again....hmmm, not sure that we needed a repeat performance.

The morning after - I did a quick search around various websites in the US, UK and here at home and found pretty much the same response which I'll paraphrase..."hits and misses, so-so, offensive, hard hitting, insulting, bull-ish, and my favourite "nobody knew whether to laugh or boo so they did both!".

You know - if the GG's took themselves as seriously as they would like us to believe they do - then hiring a contentious at best personality to lend the awards some "credibility" (yes someone actually used that word) was probably a mistake.

I posed the question on the LOL Facebook page and received the following response from Canadian comic performers:

Ward Anderson commented: "People actually WATFCH award shows?"

And Chuck Byrn replied:

Why are people still surprised that he is mean?
That's why they hired him.

The Golden Globes is held in a small venue, people are at tables, booze is being served, it is hosted by a bunch of foreign critics, mean is the best way to go.

...I wish HBO would broadcast it so people could do some real party jokes.

As always, your thoughts are welcome!

Happy Wednesday!
