able to pay the rent, and their crabby landlady, Mrs. Wentzell, says they
have to pay up...or move out right after Christmas.

Time now for another in our series of readings from the House of Wooden Santas.
So far, Jesse and Jonathan haven't had much luck infecting Jonathan's landlady, Mrs. Wentzell, with the Christmas spirit.
But they're not prepared to give up, because they believe it's the only way to keep Mrs. Wentzell from evicting Jonathan and his mother.

So far in The House of Wooden Santas, Jesse and Jonathan have tried
just about everything to inject some Christmas spirit into Mrs. Wentzell,
Jesse's landlady.
They've sent her a letter from Santa, decorated her tree under cover of
darkness...and attempted to play The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy over the
phone.
But so far, nothing has changed Mrs. Wentzell's mind about evicting
Jesse and his mother right after Christmas.
As we continue the story today, we find the boys determined to keep
trying.

Last time.... in The House of Wooden Santas, Jesse's
optimism turned to despair, as Mrs. Wentzell
confirmed he and his mother have to move out of
their house just days after Christmas.
It appears none of Jesse and Jonathan's schemes
have given the landlady the Christmas spirit...and
that has led the boys to doubt the existence of
Santa Claus.
