One woman's story - How court orders failed her daughter
For Rutie Lampe, the message was all to clear…. and all too familiar. Monday on Labrador Morning, we heard from the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women. The group is calling for harsher penalties for people charged with domestic assault. Lampe couldn’t agree more. Her daughter, Kimberly Jararuse was killed in Nain back in 2010. Jararuse’s boyfriend, Lucas Abel was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 7 years. Minus 4 years, for time served. But what really shocked Lampe, was finding out Abel had PREVIOUSLY been charged with assaulting her daughter. And at the time of Jararuse’s death, he was under a court order not to contact her. Rutie Lampe spoke with CBC’s Bailey White.
