Guy Fawkes Night in Labrador

Bonfire-night-001.jpgTonight, bon fires will be lighting up the night sky across Labrador. It’s Guy Fawkes Night. Back in 1605, the Englishman planned to assassinate King James along with a group of Catholic conspirators by blowing up British Parliament. But the plot was foiled. And Guy Fawkes and a dozen others paid for it with their lives. To celebrate the safety of the King, bon fires were set alight on the very night the gunpowder plot was stopped…November 5th, 1605. For Margaret Parsons, Guy Fawkes Night was always a big occasion growing up on Birch Island. And she’s even written about it. This morning, Margaret is in our studio in Happy Valley-Goose Bay to share her memories.
