Rüdiger Eder - Close call on the Kenamu

RUDY GERMAN RESCUE.jpg Rüdiger Eder spent three days on the rugged shore of Kenamu River after his canoe ran into rocks The RCMP in Happy Valley /Goose Bay, NL were notified early yesterday that a helicopter pilot with Big Land Aviation spotted a man on the shoreline of the Kenamu River 40 km from Happy Valley/Goose Bay who appeared to be in distress. . The helicopter was unable to assist due to the terrain and relayed the man’s location to the RCMP. Fire and Emergency Services was contacted and a helicopter with Four members of the Happy Valley/Ground Search & Rescue team, headed to the location.
The helicopter was able to hover near the surface at the location and the Ground Search & Rescue team were able to assist 55 year old Rüdiger Eder from Germany into the helicopter. He is in good health. Eder was traveling the Kenamu River by canoe and lost his paddle in the current on Sunday. He continued along the river and eventually struck a rock in an area of rapids, losing his canoe. He was stranded on the shoreline since this time waiting to be spotted.
