Torngat Mountains National Park - Bear Guards

Torngat Mts National Park.jpgThe man attacked by a polar bear in the Torngat Mountains National Park is still in hospital. He was part of a Sierra Club hiking group touring in the park last week. The bear managed to get past a portable electrical fence and then drag the man from his tent early in the morning… The group had registered with Parks Canada - but they didn’t have an Inuit bear guard with them. James Thorbourne is the President of the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies. The group runs the Base Camp in the national park.
This morning, James joins us in the studio with his thoughts on the attack.
