Northern Ranger Woes - Minister Nick McGrath

northern ranger.jpgWell it was a hectic couple of days for passengers of the Northern Ranger As we heard on yesterday’s show, the Northern Ranger is tied up in Happy Valley-Goose Bay until Friday. Leaving passengers like Boas Mitsuk stranded. Mitsuk is trying to get home to Hopedale. He spoke to the CBC’s Kate Adach. as well as call from our TALKBACK line and to answer those concerns we’ve reached Labrador Affairs Minister Nick McGrath.

Labrador Hydro Rate hike - Up 25 per cent ?

HydroLogo_01.jpgLabradorians, for the most part, are going to see a big jump in their electricity bills. Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is looking to increase rates by 25 percent for most customers. Those residential customers will, if the rates are approved, see an increase from 3.9 cents a kilowatt hour to 4.9 cents. Customers on the island are seeing a slight decrease in rates to 12 cents a kilowatt hour. Reporters, including our own Peter Cowan, questioned Hydro Vice-President Rob Henderson about the rate application.

Hopedale family - House burnt down

It’s going to take some time, but a Hopedale family whose house burnt down is getting back on their feet. Lise and Ross Flowers were away fishing with their son when the fire started. It levelled the house, and killed the family’s dog. The Flowers’ got back to Hopedale not long ago. Labrador Morning’s Bailey White caught up with Lise.
