Roudy Town Council Meeting in Happy Valley Goose Bay

It was standing room only last night at the town council meeting in Happy Valley-Goose Bay…. and the issue dominating the agenda has a lot of people talking. The town is looking for a new recreation director…. and questions are being raised about the hiring process. The hiring committee is composed of deputy mayor Stan Oliver…. town manager Wyman Jacque…and an outside third party — and they’ve narrowed it down to four candidates. But last night some people showed up to the meeting to speak in support of candidates they feel should have been given an interview. The issue has also divided council….and led to an explosive argument between councillors.
Deputy mayor Stan Oliver did say applicants were screened based on a number of criteria including education, management experience, and knowledge of the job’s duties. There were only four councillors present at last night’s meeting….. Mayor Leo Abbass is away….. and earlier this week Lidija Chubbs announced her resignation. We have some sound from the council meeting..and…. Lidjia is with us in the studio with us this morning with John Gaudi.
