Hunting Caribou in Nunatsiavut - Sarah Leo

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Sarah Leo_president.jpg Sarah Leo 21 caribou were taken down by Nunatsiavut hunters last week. The hunt is said to have taken place north of Nain, and the hunters say the animals are part of the Torngat Mountain herd, not the George River herd, which is off limits to hunting for the next 5 years. It appears as though they’ve listened to the plea of Nunatsiavut president, Sarah Leo. She asked hunters to stay away from the George River Herd due to its rapid decline. And just last week she was at meeting in Sept Iles Quebec to talk about the George river herd with other aboriginal groups. This morning she joins Tony Dawson by phone from Nain.
