Labrador ice conditions - From the Umiak 1

UMIAK 1.jpg The Umiak 1 is big, really big. The 188 metre long icebreaker can pretty much chew through any kind of ice that stands in its way. The vessel has just made its first voyage of the winter season to Voisey’s Bay to pick up a load of nickel. Randy Rose is the Captain of the Umiak 1. Labrador Morning’s John Gaudi spoke with Captain Rose by satellite phone about the conditions he encountered along the way.
