"Folks Dressed Up Like Eskimos" ?

joey_flowers_3.jpg Joey Flowers website - Seal skin boots and fur-lined hoods. Igloos and dog sleds. These are images that may come to mind when you hear the word “Eskimo”. But, according to Joey Flowers, these cultural stereotypes don’t really tell the whole story. What you think of when you hear popular references like “Eskimo Pie”, “Eskimo kisses”, or the “Edmonton Eskimos” may have little or nothing to do with the cultural group known to some as “Eskimos”. Joey Flowers is an Inuk who grew up in Labrador and Quebec. He runs a website called “Folks Dressed Up Like Eskimos”. The purpose of the site is to address what people think of when they hear the word “Eskimo”. And he does so with a touch of satire. Byron Hamel reached him on the phone in Ottawa.
