Boom Towns Swap Thoughts with Fort McMurray
In the past couple of years, a lot of people have been referring to Labrador West as “mini Fort Mac”. It’s a comparison to the boom in Alberta, which is similar to what is now being experienced in Labrador City and Wabush. With booms, come challenges: housing, a shortage of workers, fly-in fly-out work patterns, just to name a few. A delegation from the towns of Wabush and Labrador City, the mining companies and provincial government have just returned from Fort McMurray. They wanted to take a firsthand look at the community and how it deal with its challenges. Mayor Ron Barron of Wabush was part of the group. He joins us live on the phone.
