How the police used a sniffing canine to find a robbery suspect in Happy Valley Goose Bay.

Brock_2.jpg RCMP Police Dog - Brock The last two weeks have seen a rash of armed robberies in Happy Valley Goose Bay. In each case, a man has fled with cash. Well on Monday, a thief struck again…this time targeting a corner store. But the police were able to sniff out a suspect. RCMP Cpl Rick Mills tells Labrador Morning producer Chris Harbord what happened.

UPDATE: (Noon Atlantic) Five separate Armed Robberies have been reported in the Happy Valley/Goose Bay, NL area in the last 11 days. As a result of these Robberies, the RCMP had put together an extensive investigative team which consisted of the Forensic Identification Section, General Investigation Section, RCMP Police Dog Services from St.John’s,NL, a Forensic Facial Imaging Artist brought in from Fredericton,NB along with numerous RCMP Officers from the Happy Valley/Goose Bay Office.
As a result of this intensive investigation, the RCMP believe that all 5 Robberies were committed by the same person and 19 year old Ian Williams of Goose Bay, NL, facing the following 15 charges:

Robbery X 5 - Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose X 5 - Wearing a Disguise to Commit a Criminal Act X 5
