Unique Piece of Naval History in Southern Labrador

This week, people in L’Anse Amour are remembering a unique piece of naval history in Southern Labrador. Ninety years ago, the British H.M.S. Raleigh battle cruiser plowed into a reef off the coast. Divers are now documenting what’s left of the ship. But the story of the H.M.S. Raleigh reaches far beyond the reef where it ran aground. Like many others in L’Anse Amour, Rita Davis’ family opened its doors to the British sailors who were rescued. She even has some treasure to show for it. Our John Gaudi spoke with Rita Davis about it, and first asked what’s her family’s connection to the H.M.S. Raleigh.
