Shocked by IOC Layoffs
Earlier this year, the Iron Ore Company of Canada closed a Labrador West office that provided its Employee Assistance Program. The EAP office was the place for IOC workers to go for counciling or other assistance with personal or family issues. IOC says it changed its service provider and counciling is still available in the community. But the decision came as a shock to employees who worked there. Josephine Gaulton-Rowe worked in the office for two years. She told reporter Mike Power how she got the news, and her thoughts on the change in service. And then, to find out more about the changes that were made to the program in Labrador City, how they happened, Mike reached Kari Plaster, IOC’s Vice President of Human resources at her office in Montreal.
