Potential Fish Contamination in Hopedale

For years, people in Hopedale have eaten fish and shellfish from their harbour. But this week they were informed that the rock-cod, sculpin, mussels and clams they harvest may be contaminated…with PCB’s. The toxins come from an abandoned US Military Radar site. And now residents are being warned to avoid bottom feeding species in the harbour. Tom Sheldon is Director of Environment for the Nunatsiavut Government We reached him in Nain. We also speak with AngajukK√Ęk Wayne Piercy about how widely fish are harvested and eaten from this contaminated area.
