NunatuKavut Member Responds To DFO Seizure
NunatuKavut member Kirk Lethbridge defied the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and took his canoe out to fish near Happy Valley-Goose Bay. This summer, the Aboriginal group is asserting its right to fish in the Upper Lake Melville Area. But DFO says NunatuKavut’s communal fishing license applies only to the South Coast of Labrador. Lethbridge paddled out last Saturday to assert what he calls his Aboriginal right to fish. He told Labrador Morning producer Chris Harbord what happened.
