Bell Aliant - Progress report on Fibre for Labrador

Thumbnail image for bellaliant.jpgIt’s one of the most frustrating things about moving to Happy Valley Goose Bay. For over a year, new arrivals haven’t been able to sign up for internet access. Well this summer, Bell Alliant is working to change that. They’re installing a fibre optic link with Labrador City… Which will mean faster speeds, and new accounts. To find out more the CBC’s Bridgette Noel spoke to Bell Alliant spokesperson Mark Duggan.

Raising the Francophone Flag

Thumbnail image for francophone.jpgYesterday, members of the Francophone community held a flag raising in Happy Valley Goose Bay. Francophone Day is celebrated across the province each May 30th It was the second year for raising the Franco-Newfounland and Labrador flag at the townhall in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. And students, teachers and others gathered to mark the occassion en Francais. Labrador Morning’s John Gaudi dropped by the townhall to find out about the flag, and what the day means for the community

Happy Valley Goose Bay Fire Chief

carl oldford 001.jpg Fire Chief Carl Oldford Volunteer firefighters have been busy in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Last week, they spent days battling the out of control forest fire on Five Wing Goose Bay. But there have also been others fires. On Tuesday, volunteers firefighters responded to a brush fire on White Crescent. That one was more of a nuissance. Labrador Morning’s John Gaudi met up with Fire Chief Carl Oldford at the firehall in Happy Valley-Goose Bay
