Burton Winters Vigil in Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Thumbnail image for Burton Winters_01.jpgLast night, 100s of people held a vigil for Burton Winters in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. They lit candles, carried signs, and sent laterns floating up into the night’s sky in a show of support for the Winters family. People rallied to demand a primary search and rescue base in Labrador. Near the end of the vigil, Labrador MP Peter Penashue spoke to the crowd. But he didn’t talk about search and rescue. Here, For the record, is some of what he said.which left some people in the crowd got angry after listening to Penashue’s address. Pamela Knight lives in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Our reporter John Gaudi did ask Peter Penashue why he didn’t talk about search and resuce in his address to the crowd. He said it wasn’t the place to be political as he was there to support the family like everyone else. . He went onto to say he’s waiting on results of a review into certain Search and Rescue procedures.
