Lab West Reacts to IOC Fly In Proposal

Contract talks between the Iron Ore Company of Canada and the steelworkers union have broken off. The key issue is a proposal to allow “fly in fly out” of workers at the mine. Union President Ron Thomas says members gave him a mandate to walk away from the negotiating table if the issue was raised. But the IOC says it’s becoming a necessary part of doing business. Heather Bruce-Vitch (Veitch), the company’s director of external relations, spoke to Labrador Morning’s Mike Power. IOC’s proposal is the reason the steelworkers walked out of contract talks last week. Mike Power went to the local mall to ask people for their thoughts on the issue.
