Yvonne Jones speaks to Labrador Morning about her health and decision to step down as Liberal Leader

Yvonne Jones Aug09_11.jpg MHA Yvonne Jones photo - ford rumbolt.jpg Ford Rumbolt - Mary’s Harbour An emotional Yvonne Jones stood in front of a podium yesterday and announced that she was resigning as leader of the provincial Liberal Party. After a year of battling breast cancer, she was advised that a grueling provincial campaign would be too hard on her system. But she’s not stepping out of the political spotlight altogether. She will be seeking re-election in her district of Cartwright- L’Anse au Clair. She’s on the line with Tony Dawson….

BeforeYvonne Jones entered provincial politics, she was the leader of the Town Council in her home town, Mary’s Harbour! That’s where Ford Rumbolt worked closely with her. He’s the Deputy Mayor of Mary’s Harbour… but was a councilor when Jones was mayor in the 90s. He also joins Tony Dawson by telephone from Mary’s Harbour.
