Big change in plans..Independent Pharmacies will accept government health cards today

Plans have changed for independent pharmacy owners. They will NOT be forcing customers on the provincial drug program to pay up front for their prescriptions. Pharmacist were planning to withdraw from the program today in an effort to force a separate contract negotiation with the government. They say the province’s plan to claw back money paid to pharmacies from generic drug companies will hurt their small businesses. Warr’s pharmacy received notice from the government yesterday, threatening disciplinary action if they went ahead with the original plan. Head pharmacist Kelly Norman joins Tony Dawson by telephone.
