Tourning the Wetlands at IOC in Labrador City
A former waste pile at the Iron Ore Company in Labrador City is now a thriving wetland. After several years work, what was the tailings line is now home to many species of birds and animals. There is a wide variety of trees and plants and even a stream to let fish move back and forth to a man made pond. In two thousand four, the company won a National environmental award for the project. Yesterday, grade four students from JR Smallwood middle school visited the project and helped plant trees. Reporter Mike Power tagged along….
