A Natuashish writer Shines

A grade 8 student from Natuashish is basking in the lime light.
Candace Toma has won a national writing contest for her story “Ghosts of the Future.” She submitted it to the 7th annual Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge. And her entry won in the 14-18 year old category.
Candace’s story is a personal take on her people’s — and her family’s - transition from the old to the new ways. It’s a big accomplishment…Candace is visually disabled…she is going blind from Stargardt’s Disease. Cindy Wall reached both Candace Toma and her teacher Dave Andrews at Mushuau Innu Natuashish school.
