Come Home Year - Happy Valley Goose Bay/North West River

ARLENE MICHELIN.jpgArlene Michelin Renew friendships and have some good-old fashioned family fun. That’s how organizers are describing the Labrador Come Home Year 2011 celebration. Happy Valley Goose Bay and Northwest River are a special focus for this year’s event. And organizers hope lots of people will be making the trek home this summer. It’s getting close — activities kick-off in just about two weeks…. Arlene Micheline chairs the Happy Valley Goose Bay Come Home Year committee She joins Cindy Wall in the studio to tell us more about how the event is shaping up…

Expo Labrador - Being ready for Big Development Projects...

DENNIS PECK.JPGDennis Peck Happy Valley Goose Bay wil be a very different place if the the Lower Churchill project goes ahead. The town has already gone on record to say it lacks the infrastructure for such an undertaking. Not enough housing, roads, and services like recreational programs are some of the concerns. Yesterday, Dennis Peck made a presentation at the Expo Labrador Conference about being prepared for large development projects. He used to be the Director of Economic Development in Happy Valley Goose Bay. He’s now a consulting planner at the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Alberta. Peck shared lessons of how that municipality learned to take charge of development projects. Here’s some of his presentation
