5. Why is the CBC expanding into Kitchener-Waterloo?

The expansion is part of CBC's strategic plan, “Everyone, Every Way,” which was launched in February 2011. The goal is to better connect more than six million Canadians over the next four years, in areas which have been identified as underserviced by Canada's public broadcaster.

CBC launched a new digital service in Hamilton, Ont. in the spring of 2012. Service expansion in 2013 has already been implemented for Kamloops, B.C.; Saskatoon, Sask. is scheduled for the spring.

"We made a commitment in our 2015 strategic plan to include the Waterloo Region and we're proud of what our small but committed team will be able to provide by way of coverage on the ground," says Susan Marjetti, managing director, CBC Toronto and Ontario region.
