Here is my book review for Freak The Mighty written by Rodman Philbrick. I think this book is a must read for any kids twelve to fourteen years old. I thoroughly enjoyed this book because of the intense conflict, and the creative characters. However the reason why I think this book is a must read, is how well written it is.

The book is written in 1st person by Maxwell Kane. It follows a year of his lifetime. In this time Max makes a best friend, struggles in school and had a hard time dealing with his parent issues. Max is very relatable through the entire story. Also Max adds his sense of humor which will always make you laugh.

The conflict in the story centers around Max’s dad and his past actions. Also Kevin (Max’s best friend) has a growing problem which does not allow him to grow properly. Very soon Kevin is going to have a operation to fix this problem. Another Conflict is Max’s school work. Max has been in learning disability classes for the last few years. And max does not want to go back to learning disability.

Those are two things that are great about Freak The Mighty. However my favorite thing about the book is just how well written it is. Every part of the descriptive writing creates a clear picture in your head, so that you can imagine being there. The character and setting were so believable that I can imagine being in the book. Also there was much foreshadowing and allusion used that it makes you keep guessing what will happen next. When you start the book you will not be able to put it down.

You can clearly tell from this review how this book is a must read. From the great characters, to the suspense filled conflict and how well written the book is. It is very hard to find any faults in the book. That is why I give it a 5 out of 5.
