The Alchemist:

The book I'm reviewing this time is The Alchemist. I like this and don't care for it at the same time. The book’s all about 'finding your personal legend' and following your heart. I think this has been done before, but that goes with most other books, too. I don't think this has an exciting enough plot to read it by itself. It's sort of a study book, you have to read into it and find hidden meanings. That's a good thing and a bad thing. Sometimes you want to just sit and read and not worry about anything. Sometimes you're bored and need something interesting to do, like study a book, haha. The best part I think, is that there ARE hidden meanings and the plot isn't neccessarily predictable like most others out there. I also like the fact that The Alchemist isn't about Alchmey at all, but the actual Alchemist in the book is kind of like the main characters guide throughout. (By the way, the main characters name is Santiago, haha.)
I'm not going to tell you guys all about the book because I want you to read it for yourself, but at least you have the jyst of it. If it sounds interesting, and even if it doesn't, I want you to read it because you just might learn something. It's at EVERY library and I'm sure your teacher will have heard of it. This book is great for people who aren't big on reading, too. It's not terribly thick and the words are simple unless you want to look deeper into them. =)>
Good luck, guys. I strongly reccomend you read this for the purpose of LEARNING, and to have something to do. Enjoy, and please comment if you've read it before or are planning to read it. Even if you have critisism.

I have to disagree with the initial review posted. I find this novel very, very interesting, but the first time I read it (approx. age 12) I found it a snore. Most children will probably be disinterested in "The Alchemist", but I think secondary school students (e.g. me) would find it compelling and hard to put down. Although some would consider it an "easy" read, it has a purpose far beyond that of just simple words. If you enjoy psycological novels with similair messages to the ones conveyed in "The Little Prince" I suggest that you read this novel.

I feel this book shows a strong message to never let you dreams die. I have only read to page 50 but i enjoy reading this novel. Santiago is very bright person and shows this during his journey as a shpeard. He loves his sheep derly and they seem to communicate with him during different points in the book. I think people of all ages would enhoy reading The Alchemist.
