2001: A Space Odyssey:

2001: A Space Odyssey was made in 1965, but the special effects, plot and choreography are still unmatched. The story is about these monoliths that help humans evolve and become more advanced throughout the ages. The film has a very epic feel to it and its musical score of Also Sprach Zarathustra and On the Beautiful Blue Danube really help highlight it. The acting is superb, especially by Canadian actor Douglas Rain. However if you are not used to this kind of movie, then you might be a bit confused and/or bored, especially at the ending.
Overall, I think that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the greatest Sci-fi movie of all time if not the best movie of all time. It certainly is my all-time favourite and I would heartily recommend it to everyone.

A monolith is sort of like a large featureless object.
