Eragon the Movie:

Reviewed By: Remarque
Location: Riverport, NS
Rating: 1 out of 5

I saw Eragon when it first came out to theatres, an unusual occurrence for O-Short-of-Money me. The reason I dished out my 20 dollars to see this pathetic version of a great book was because...well...the book was great. Better yet, it was written by someone not much older than me (well, ole' Chris has grown up, but he STARTED at 15, and that's what counts, right?), and I'd like to think of myself as a budding writer.
Unfortunately, however, the movie was just more of the same Hollywood blather. They took the names of the characters, the general idea of the plot and setting, and the whole blue-dragon idea and screwed (excuse me) it around, until the movie and the book are two very separate things. I mean, really - exotic, dark-haired Arya was replaced by...well, nevermind. And the same with Eragon. Trying to appeal to the masses (e.g. 14 year old girls - peeps, the actor who played Eragon was Hot with a capital 'H'), they replaced the book's finer details and turned them into an Alagasien-High-School-Musical.
I give it a 1-out-of-5 because, frankly, the only thing worth seeing the movie for is to check out...nevermind. :-)h

I have not read Eragon but I have seen the movie and my friends have done both and say that the movie sucked compared to the book!

i did enjoy the movie, but only as a reminder of the far more brilliant book. the movie seems in fact like a trailer or synopsis of a book it cannot hold a candle to

Hey this is my fourth comment on cbc!
This is the first time that I've put down one of the review items.
Simply put, the movie did not match the quality of the book (I thought the book was awesome). Most people don't expect movies that are made based on books to be as good as the book and their usually right.
I'll state the two biggest problems with the movie. Firstly, they tried to cram way to much into the time frame for the movie. Everything happened too fast. So there was no time for character developement and to grow attached to any of the characters.
Secondly, they did not get enough actors for the film. For those of you who saw it, I think you might agree. Remember the part near the end of the movie, where Eragon and company are preparing for the orcs and whatnot to attack? They wait at the gate for attack and suddenly the gate breaks and the orcs are supposed to come rushing in......I swear only two came in and that was it!
Basically this movie was really bad. It's a waste of time to watch. I'm pretty sure the movie lost money instead of making money.

This movie was extremely enjoyable! But this movie left out a lot of important stuff that was in the book. I think the movie had trouble bringing in every detail from the book to the movie. The movie was still really exciting to watch.
I personally think that if you haven't read the book, the movie was awesome, but if you read the book the movie was lame in some spots.

I agree with you completely. I think the movie was good, but compared to the book, it was awful. They left out way too much stuff. It was also really odd the way that Eragon suddenly is able to do magic.

After reading the book and then watching the movie I felt like crying that's how bad it was.

hey i just read eragon cuz i always make a point of reading the books before a movie (so ey im 2 years late) but wow that book was great but NOOOO the film! what happened? now i must agree with all of the above postings. as a film....aint that bad...but yet again we stroll down the dingy street of bad book to movie rerun. Gosh! they changed everything apart from the names. the only part they changed that i have to say i wholeheartedly agree with is the way in which eragon kills durza. way better than the book. but the rest? tah, they even left out sloans daughter! shes in the extended scenes but lord those ra'zac guys were bad they shud have been more LOTR ringwraiths slash HP dementors...hmmmmm

The Movie wasn't bad but I think that it was really weird how in the book that Arya was Dark Haired and Beutiful and in the movie she was blonde and Okay I mean COME ON PEOPLE the movie had pretty good effects though. I'd give it a 3 out of 5

YOu are so right! if you read the book first, then the movie wasn't even worth seeing if you were dying of boredom in a prison cell. i was so insulted how they changed the plot and the looks of ayra and everything you basically said.
