When the words Jurassic Park pop up, what comes first to your mind? The movie? Or the book? Jurassic Park the novel is an extraordinary sci-fi epic written by Michael Crichton. The book starts off with Alan Grant, a senior paleontologist working for InGen, a mysterious company that is concerned with dinosaur excavation. One day, John Hammond, the CEO of InGen, escorts Alan Grant to his dinosaur-themed adventure park. Little does Grant know that the park actually has real dinosaurs! Alan Grant, along with his assistant Ellie Sattler, voyage to the Costa Rican island and take a tour of the treacherous theme park, which still has a few bugs to fix! At the park, Grant meets Hammond’s grandchildren, Tim, an avid dinosaur reader, and Alexis, a tomboy interested in baseball. Soon, a tropical storm hits the park. Grant and the kids are attacked by a vicious T-Rex, which tears apart their tourist vehicles. Tim and Alexis are separated from Grant, who thinks they are dead. Both Tim and Alexis fight against all odds to survive by climbing through the dense jungle trees.
Meanwhile, back at the Jurassic Park control centre, Ian Malcolm, one of John Hammond’s consultants, predicts that Jurassic Park will become a huge failure. John Hammond refuses the warnings while Dennis Nedry, his computer engineer, attempts to steal 15 embryos for another genetic company. In the process, Nedry shuts down the whole system, including the electrical fences that bar the dinosaurs away from the humans. Nedry is attacked and eaten by a Dilophosaurus during the tropical storm, putting the future of Jurassic Park in jeopardy. Will the Jurassic Park survive? Will Alan, Tim and Alexis stop the dinosaurs? Read the book to find out!
Michael Crichton did a fantastic job of writing the sci-fi thriller Jurassic Park. The plot was remarkably long and had a variety of twists and turns. Even though I watched the movie, the book still surprised me with its sudden flashes of excitement. I also enjoyed how Crichton wrote what happened to each and every one of the main characters in the novel. The only things that I didn’t like about the novel was that Crichton didn’t really describe the setting very well and the book was very long at the beginning. There was a lot of blood and gore in the novel, along with technical speech and terms. I would recommend this book to teens who love fast, action-packed novels.
