The Thief is one of my faverite books. It is written by Megan Whalen Turner. Gen who plays the thief, boasts about being the best thief and able to steal anything. So the king's magus wants him to steal Hamiathe's Gift from the neighboring country, although the neighboring country doesn't even know they have it. Hamiathe's gift would make Gen's king, king over their neighboring country.

Megan Whalen Turner has also written The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia, which are both about Gen. The thief is a well written book for kids ages 12 and above.
