Artemis Fowl:

The story Artemis Fowl is well-laid out and most of the steps run smoothly into each other. I particularly like how the author compares and exaggerates the differences between the red-headed, small framed teenager, who is small in physique but a genius in the mind, and the muscular, well armed six foot body guard Butler.

I don’t think ‘Lieutenant Cudguen’ was introduced very well, because he was only mentioned once early in the book before he turned up with a team of sprites. More importantly I definitely would have preferred knowing what happened in the council and how Cudguen persuaded the members of the council that his “Troll idea” would work.

I was also curious what happened to the sprite on Ho Chi Minh City in Japan early in the book, after Artemis and Butler left. However this doesn’t affect the story.

The sudden twist in character put a question mark on Artemis, Criminal mastermind or twelve year old boy? The way he suddenly wishes his mother cured was touching but that doesn’t make up for all the lies he told her.

I personally enjoyed reading Artemis Fowl and would definitely recommend this delightful action-packed book.
