Chobits:

This is a review about the anime Chobits.

Chobits is a really cute anime. It's about a ronin (someone that failed to pass university) called Hideki that moves from his farm in Hokkaido to live in Tokyo.

He's really poor and lives in an apartment-like townhouse and the owner is really nice. He sees some persocoms (personal robots made to look like humans) in a store and he wishes he had a persocom but he can't afford one.

One day while returning from work he notices a persocom near a dump wrapped up in bandages and seems unconscious. He takes her to his room and his friend, Shinbo, tells him to turn her on. Shinbo knows about persocoms because he has his old portable persocom called Sumomo.

After some fiddling with where it was, he finally turns her on. The owner of the building offers her clothes to Hideki's persocom. The persocom can only say "chii” and doesn't seem to know anything so Hideki calls her Chii.

Shinbo recommends that Hideki should go to a guy called Minoru for help with Chii. Hideki finds out that Minoru has a huge mansion with tons of persocom servants and that he's just a kid.

Minoru explains to Hideki that persocoms can learn quickly. Minoru tells Hideki that persocoms don't really have feelings and emotions though it seems that they do. Minoru says that there is only one persocom that has actual feelings and emotions and that's a chobits, which is lengendary.

Soon Chii learns quickly from Hideki and starts a job at the bakery.

One day Minoru emails Hideki a picture asking him if the following photo is a photo of Chii. The girl in the photo looks like Chii but she's wearing dark clothing and has wires attached to her. On her leg are the letters HOBITS but her arm is blocking the first letter.

Hideki asks Chii if it's her and Chii says it isn't.

Through all of this, Chii likes to purchase a manga series called "The City With No People" which reflects her past.

It turns out that her past was: She was created by a man and a woman that wanted children. Her actual name was Elda and her older sister that was created earlier was called Freya. Elda (Chii) wore a white dress and Elda wore a black one so the couple could tell the difference. The "father" created them so that one day they could find their "one and only". Freya made a mistake and made her "father" her one and only. Freya found out that something was wrong with her heart and stopped functioning. She connected her soul to Elda's. Then the couple found the problem with their "daughters" and decided to dump her.

But soon, all works out and everything is back to normal.

it was terific

Sounds neat, though I've never heard of it.

sounds really cool I ve never seen it but i would like to watch it sometime

It sounds interesting! Being the anime nut that I am, I guess I'll have to watch it! ^^

I LOVE CHOBITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happens in one Chobits show, is like 1/100000 of what happens in one book!

The show is still pretty good but I like the books better.

Chii is pretty darn cute though, even if they make lots of perverted jokes in the books (but its so discret that a lot of people dont notice)

chobits are great. you can watch it at
www.animethat.com. its great!!!

I LOVE Chobits!!! For those of you who did not see or read it yet it defenetly is a must. The story is a mixed of science fiction, romance with a twist of comedy. Il be the first to admit that this Anime is defenetly not for all ages. For any parents out there i would not sudjest this anime for people under 16. Of course some teens are more mature but never the less (those of you who have seen it know what i mean) some of the subjects maters are quite mature. Just think of the first episode and how Chii gets activated. The Manga's are great and much more suited for 13+.

On a side note:

I would love to see cbc catch up with the times and play some anime. (jap-anime)

It could be kool to have a late night anime block. Keeping in mind that most great anime series are 14+,16+ and 18+. So it would have to be.

sounds good, i'll have to find it. great review btw. XD

I agree with claire. This anime is definately not for everyone because there are some ecchi moments, but if you're willing to overlook (or enjoy) those, this is an excellent anime with a very deep and interesting story. And not to mention the tons of excellent humor. And thank god they didn't ruin the dub, so it's also a good anime for people who don't like subs. But I haven't been exposed to the manga much, so I have no opinion there.
