The Earthsea Series:

I just finished reading the first book of six and can’t wait to read the next one!
This is a really great series about a boy named Ged who is a wizard. He lived in a poor town when he was young, learning a few spells from his aunt, but on his thirteenth birthday he is asked to become the apprentice of a powerful wizard.
After a year he goes to a wizard school, where he accidentally unleashes an evil shadow. The first book is about how he grows up to adulthood, and, with the help of a childhood friend, sets out to destroy the shadow he unleashed.
The rest of the books are about other events of his life, which eventually lead up to him becoming the most powerful, well-known wizard in all of Earthsea, the world in which he lives.
This series is especially good for Harry Potter fans, even though Ursula K. LeGuin has a totally different idea of what magic is.
This is a very good series, so READ IT!
Comments
I haven't read the books per say, but the summaries of them on Wikipedia, and they did seem like a very interesting series. I did watch the sci-fi mini series of the same name, and I did enjoy that; even though Ursula K. LeGuin didn't much like/approve of it herself.
Perhaps I shall search out my nearest bookstore and purchase the series and actually read it for myself.
