The City of Ember:

I recently read a book called "The City Of Ember".
It is about a 12 year old girl named Lina and a boy named Doon who live in Ember. Ember was once a bright, peaceful city but now the warehouses are running out of food and clothes and the lights have grown dim and black outs have started to occur, some only seconds and some long. And then Lina finds a mysterious message in her grandmothers home, but she is too late, Poppy -her younger sister- finds it first, and chews it. Lina and Doon must solve the message to save the city before it's too late.
I would not recommend this book to anyone. Although I think the plot is very interesting, the way it was written was very boring. The words were very 'thin'. Parts that could have been suspensful if written so, were not. There was no detail making it hard to visualize and get into the book.
Comments
I dissagree, I loved the book but I do agree that her word selection could have been larger and by the middle I had started to lose interest. I put it down for a few weeks but when I started reading it again I found that it turned out to be a pleasing ending with a few twists. I have also read the other 2 books and would recommend them too.

This was a wonderful, wonderful book. I could not put it down. As a matter of fact, I have bought a set for my classroom so we can use it for literature circles.

I TOTALLY agree with you! I mean, when I read about it, I thought the idea of ember was interesting, so I bought the book. I couldn't stand it! I quit trying to read it halfway through. I think the story had great potential, but the author is a weak writer. Perhaps in the hands of a more descriptive writer it would have been a success.

This book really kept me intrigued! I loved all the suspence!

I am in the middle of city of ember and i think it is confusing, but kind of good. I think mostly it is a stupid book, because it is dark and there are no citys that are dark.

I just finished The City of Ember and for the most part. I liked it. It has an intersting plot and its genre is between sciene fiction and fantasy. Personally I hate those to genres but Jeanne Duprau did a great job at writing the book. I can't wait to read the next installment, People of Sparks.

I really like the book It is extreemely ausome.
I like the sequel too.
This book is very fun and exiting. I like most books that are lke this one. I want to read the prequel.
I think the whole Idea of the instructions and trying to escape from an ancient city in the future. Jeane Duprau said that she meant it to be in the future but it doesn't really matter.

I think the city of ember is a good book because you have to read the whole book to understand it. The City of Ember is suspensful and it doesn't have violence or witchcraft in it. I think that it's cool that Jeane DuPrau wrote the book in such a way that makes you want to read the sequel.

i also agree i started to lose interest it just didn't sound interestin but towards the end it got a little better but the author could have used stronger words.

Dear reviewer,
I totally agree with you. The plot is intresting, but it was written really badly. The sentences were all choppy and boring, like 'She ran home. She liked her messenger job.' If the writing was better the book would have been better too.

This book was really good! My teacher read it to my whole class and it was alot of people's favorite book. Althought the writing style was not as good as the plot, it was an interesting style and after a while you got used to it.

I 've read the People Of Sparks
and The prophet of Yonwood
now and they were better than the first book. More interesting but the writing style was still lacking.

I really like your sequal of The City Of Ember. My teacher is reading it to us for read aloud and so far, it sounds adventurous. Q: when I read the the 3rd book, I don't think there was a part of Nickie leaving her diary beside a rock. Where did that part go to?P.S. the diary part was found online.

I think the book was very good and it kept me haning. The only part I didn't like is the ending intell I found out that there was a second book. I think that everyone should read the book. But if you don't like mysters then I think its not a good book for you.

I disagree with you, while the wording was thin, I found to engaging storyline more than made up for the fact that it was aimed at younger audiences. The later books don't have as thin of wording though, and have just as good a storyline.

I totaly think that the book rocked and so did people of sparks, THE PROPHET OF YONWOOD SUCKED

I found the book to be quite great. I don't mind the 'bland' vocab, but the story was solid. Character development could use work, I found the story line great. Like really really really good.

This book...I thought it was alright. The plot was the only reason I want to get the next book out: I want to find out what happens next. However, I think that if someone were to describe what happened in a book report, I wouldn't bother to read the book because I think it could have been better written.
