Eldest: My name is Raghav, and my review is on Eldest, a really good book. Its about an adolesent named Eragon, and his dragon Saphira. The book moves from Farthen Dur, home of the Varden, to the Burning Plains where the final battle takes place. Eragon must train if he wishes to confront Galbatorix, evil ruler of Algaesia. He romances with an elf, only leading to more problems. Roran, his brother is having even more problems back at Carvahall. What happens? That you'll have to read to figure out
Comments
Eldest is a continuation of copied ideas from Lucas' Star Wars, Ursula Le Guin's True Speech in Earth Sea, Tolklien's Lord of the Rings, and Robert Jordan's wheel of time.
Eragon, having witnessed a simple Elvish dance is now invincible in the book and cannot be killed, styled shamelessly on the author himself.
I'd give this a 1 out of 5, so I guess our opinions differ.

Really, look at any book people, lets say...... The lord of the rings to dragon rider, or any other book. It isn't hard to find thinks that are the same. Most fantasty storys are about the most unimportant person who becomes famous and a great worldwide hero.. Think about it, THe lord of the rings, dragon rider, and many other books have the sae base of story, if you wan to you can go and find out who created the first fantasty book, thinks may have been the same for a century or two, knights in shinning armor and now "unlikley" heros
p.s. Is Pat a wheel of time fan! That is to cool!

Sorry I don't know why my post came later, I wasn't talking about you Chantel, I was commenting on Max :P
Yeah I see your point Chantel but really most fanstasy books have something original in them, an original slant or idea even if it is about fantasy. Maybe it makes its own creatures or types of magic up, maybe the book is actually well-written and considers more complex ideas.
Anyway I'm getting unpopular on this site, I'd best disappear.

You try writing a book that isn`t similar to any other book you`ve read! I`m doing it right now,
and it`s hard!
P.S. Go Christopher Paolini. He rocks.

i read both Eragon and Eldest and i have NOTHING bad to say i love tem Both i read them over and over
Posted by: Allison | February 22, 2007 11:29 AM
Actually, I have read some interesting books. They all have different ideas and stuff that I`ve never read before. But they always turn out to be stupid books. So by writing a story with the popular idea (unimportant boy becomes famous hero), he is just writing a book people will like.

Best book ever

My teacher is reading that. She said it was good.
Posted by: cosmo911 | March 10, 2007 04:38 PM
I'm reading that. I sais it wasn't.
Posted by: balogna | May 2, 2007 12:00 PM
I enjoy the series, but I thought it dragged out to long, and tended to skip chapters that concerned Roran, who I found increibly boring.
Posted by: Raytay | May 18, 2007 04:33 PM
Have to say Chantel that you're generalising. Most books DO have new, interesting ideas, and yeah - some original ones too. Books with new ideas in it may just be too advanced for you or you appreciate more of a well, not immature, but definately more simplistic style that Paolini offers.
Don't take his constant trying to impress us with his vocabulary as complex. It isn't. It's the writing style more than anything else, such that I suggest you read SwankIvy's review on it (you might find it somewhere)
But Eragon takes so much from other books it doesn't have more than a handful of original ideas. It is terribly written, and its characters wooden and not ones we can emphasis or relate to - a very crucial element of a popular book.
Now, the reason that children like a lot of the posters here do just say 'BEST BOOK EVER' or 'LOVED IT' or "PAOLINI IS AWESOME' that never back up their opinion at all, is because they are young enough, - and this is not an insult, please don't take it as one - simple enough, to like a good story without it being well-written or character-built, with completely copied ideas.
That's a good thing, in a way. In the future, they wll come to awareness of the world and the literature that surrounds them.

Pat your WRONG!!!!
Posted by: Shelly | June 20, 2007 12:22 PM
Eragon is almost an exact copy of Star Wars. Luke (Eragon) was a farm boy raised by his Uncle (Garrow) who's father, Vader (Morzan), is the right hand man of the Emperor (Galbatorix). One day Luke (Eragon) meets a mysterious old man named Obi Won Kanobi (Brom) and too late Luke (Eragon) realizes that his family and house have been burnt down to the ground by Sand People (Ra'zac).
Sound familiar?
Eldest is even worse. At least Eragon's writing was semi-good but Eldest stretches the boredom out for 700 agonizing pages.

Chantel stop masquerading as other people and posting those comments which don't mean anything.
Saying I am wrong doesn't accomplish a thing.
Eragon is a terrible book -reasons stated, end of story.

chantel i hav to say ur unoriginal ideas and everyone copies stance isn't too great
youve gotta think about anything new it brings - AKA nothing
so sorry to say
but ur wrong
Posted by: marilyn | July 5, 2007 10:10 AM
indeed, eragon has no new ideas whatsoever. same with eldest. Wooden characters, bad dialog - whole thing sucks.
and for the record none of us are brats who haven't read the story. We just dislike it, and Paolini's style, how he claims he's so good and original - when in fact he is not
Posted by: Troy | July 15, 2007 08:57 AM
I really liked it and whats wrong with the dialog? you try writing a 650 page book and we'll see how bad it is
Posted by: Darren | August 25, 2007 10:17 PM
lol, the dialog is pathetic in this book for anyone over the IQ of 50.
It's not about the number of pages, its about the quality of the work - which is terrible.
"Sorry," Apologized Brom quickly.
Overuse of adverbs, every permulation of the word 'said' and fancy words Paolini probably used a Thesaurus to find does not make a good book people.
That makes an immaturely written book, his age does not change the fact he did this.
Especially copying every name, idea and plotline off other stories, is something you should be learning the ethics of by the time you are nineteen (that was when he roughlyfinished writing the book).

This book is great! cant wait if theres a thrid book!
Posted by: Nicholas | October 18, 2007 08:14 PM
i am still reading it over and over
Posted by: mack | November 20, 2007 06:50 PM
it is good. but he did copy "dragon riders of pern: and star wars
Posted by: elipce | January 22, 2008 11:00 AM
I dont care what anyone says, these two books "Eragon and Eldes" are two of the few books that i couldnt put down. Page by page i was so involved with the plot..and i happen to think the dialouge was nice. Anyone who dosent like this book, is probably trying to find ways to put it down. LIke somoone above said, you try writing a 700 page book and keep it interesting without just being a filler for the third book.
OK!!!
Posted by: Kristi | February 22, 2008 10:42 AM
Eldest is one of my altime favorites. It is a real page turner! The next book comes out on the 28th of November this year,it's called " Brisinr". Also there is going to be a fouth book, because the third book would have been to big,But no one knows the name of the fourth book! I found all this info by typing, Christopher, Paloni Wikipidia. P.S. Christopher,Paloni didn't copy Star Wars or The Dragon Riders of Pern,as someone above said.
Posted by: Sarina | March 29, 2008 03:42 PM
I do agree with Pat and Attorney, that this series is abit like Star Wars, but I have to disagree and say these are some of the best books ever! I also completley agree with Darren "what's wrong with the dialog."And just U wait Brisinr [ which means fire in the ancient Language] will probably blow your mind, and be nothing like your stupid Star Wars!"Ha" I think I made my point!
Posted by: Sarina | March 29, 2008 04:05 PM
Length does NOT make an AWESOME book people. 700 pages or not the characters were bad, the plot worse and the dialouge wooden and unbelievable.
And the fact that the author rips every other literary bestseller in the genre of Fantasy and Speculative Fiction. You can't argue that you HAVE to copy ideas because there are not many originals ones left... that's quite baseless.
You can bring something new to the table as well as use old conventions. Paolini didn't. Every one of his ideas were derived from other works and I challange you to give me ideas you will think are original in his work and I will tell you where he ripped them off from.

OH ya... you guys do know that a third book will be coming out on September the 20th 2008, and its called BRISINGR, and Gleadr will be on the cover of the book :)
Posted by: clement | April 24, 2008 09:38 PM
I can't believe what some of you people are doing. Do you have absolutely no other business than to express your opinions over a perfectly good book and finding simmilarities and differnces between Eragon/Eldest and Star Wars etc. ? Do you have that much free time to analize the dialogue in the book? I'll try to keep it simple: If you don't like it, why did you read it? If you hated the story for the first three chapters, why did you even keep on readiing? That means that the book was good enough to keep most of you reading. And that's all that matters.
Posted by: Rina | June 9, 2008 07:43 AM
If you hate the begining;keep reading you'll love the middle and end !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Shurturgal | August 8, 2008 04:32 PM
Rina you are so totally right! And Clement is right, the book comes out 9/20/08 .I've wrote alot more about the third book at [My Two Cents Inheretance]. Rock on Bookworms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
