The Dunking Wizard
I read the book, "Slam," by Walter Dean Myers. The main character of my book was Greg "Slam" Harris. His nickname is slam because in every basket ball game he plays in he busts out a huge dunk. The book is about a kid that plays basketball for Carver high school. Then he gets transferred to Latimer high school to a whole new basketball team. This team does not have anywhere near the talent that is old team had before he got there. The book goes on telling about every basketball game he plays in. every game the team develops more talent and more teamwork. The best part of the book is when he plays his old high school. Going into the game Latimer had four wins and one loss and Carver had five wins and no losses. At half time Latimer was down by eight points. In the second half Latimer finally steped up and started playing some basketball. The teamwork was amazing and at the final buzzer Latimer was ahead by one point. They had won! Greg's team had pulled through and they had won. They were now going to the tournament of champions!
I believe that the genre of "Slam" by Walter Dean Myers is contemporary realistic fiction. This is because this book could take place in this day in age.
I would recommend this book if you are really into sports. I believe that it is a good book and you should give it a try!
