THERE GREEN DAY!! O MI GOSH..

Green Day ROX!!!!!!!!!

Greenday isn't punk, they're just emo. Sum41, The Clash, The Ramones, and Billy Talent are punk.

As Louis says, Greenday is'nt punk. But i don't think that Sum 41 is punk neither. Well, i've not heard mant of their songs, but aren't they pop-punk ?

Green Day used to be punk. Matilde is right, they're kinda emo. Sum 41 and Billy Talent definately are not punk either. But the Clash and the Ramones are, and Flogging Molly, but they are Irish punk.

Yeah, it's a shame Green Day became emo.. i really like their first album, especially Road To Acceptance.. -.-' Now they just suck...

This conversation on punk is something I've heard again and again and again. If you really think about it, whatever is coming out these days adn going on the Warped Tour isn't really punk...
Bad Religion, NoFx, and Against Me! is what good punk sounds like! Irish Punk shouldn't even be declared a genre of punk rock, and Greenday does NOT suck, they just lost their music-writing abilities.

I lov epunk rock especially Avril Lavigne and Panic! at the disco!!!!!!!!!!

Avril and Panic aren't punk, they're radio...stuff. Green Day used to have a pop-punk vibe when they were on Lookout! Records. Pop punk is stuff like Screeching Weasel, which I think you kids would LOVE, as well as Dillinger 4 when you get older.

And straightforward punk is stuff like The Stooges, The Clash, (the ramones are overrated).

man, I'm actually surprised people with brains post on this site. To realitybitme. Bad religion, NoFX and against me are decent examples of newer punk band I guess. Against me used to be alot better than they are now, incorperating more anarchist views and folk style to their music. Bad religion are pretty over rated in my mind, but they're pretty good. NoFX are skate punk and they're good, but nothing special.

To Ace. Man, you know your stuff. People pay to get their music on the radio, and most this music sucks compared to the underground! Its the same in every genre though (hip-hop is probably the most obvious example) But yeah green day could now be classified as some crappy uber-commercialized version of pop punk mixed with with pitiful emo lyrics and even worse attempts to be political. Dillinger 4 are wicked, fun and fast. Screeching weasel are awesome too. The kids need to realise that what they listen to is just a pitiful attempt to be like the classics. Anyways the stooges and the clash are all old school punk in my mind.

Kids, listen to something that isnt so commercialized you parents love it. Listen to real punk, with real emotion fun times and good music.

FrED PenNER iS TeH mOSt hXc PuNK OF ALL TimE!!!!!!!111!!!one!!!

Not only is punk music described a soft or rock or screaming. their are different varieties of punk other than the vauge statements described in the paragraph above. The other varietieswould be described as Emo, Screamo, Indie, Modern Rock, and Hardcore, among other titles. Some examples of punk bands (other than the obvious one's that automatically click into someone's mind) are Billy Talent, Underoath, 30 Seconds to Mars, Senses Fail, Taking Back Sunday,Chiodos, The Academy Is..., and AFI.

does anyone here know what emo is? cuz' Green Day is so not emo. yo ace? how old do you think we are? do not call us kids!

Well, i know a lot about music and punk rock is plain aweful! doesn't anybody around hear listen to Kanye or 50 cent, they rock!!!

You people are completely confused as to what punk is about-- it makes me want to cry, really.

Punk is an underground rock 'n' roll movement based around the DIY (Do it yourself) ethic, individualism, poverty & art. It started with bands like The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, The New York Dolls, etc.. ANY of the original punks from the mid to early 70's will tell you "punk doesn't exist" and "This is not punk" simply because they HATE that label-- it represents being confined to a specific CATEGORY.

Although, for the sake of simplicity, punk is described as a movement, it was only ever a collective of individual free spirits. In fact, it is these individuals who make punk difficult to define: just when you have managed to encapsulate the ethos, these free spirits break away and make you think again. This is the essance of the movement...

Green Day are free spirits; they didn't follow the stereotypes laid out by the macho "hardcore" punks of the 80s punk-revival scene.

"Selling out refers to the compromising of one's integrity, morality and principles in exchange for money, 'success' or other personal gain. It is commonly associated with attempts to increase mass appeal or acceptability to mainstream society. A person who does this, as opposed to following the original path s/he laid (or claimed to lay) out for him/herself, is labeled a sellout and regarded with disgust and immediate loss of respect. Selling out is seen as gaining success at the cost of credibility." -Wikipedia

Green Day have not done this. Therefore, there is no arguement, and they have not sold out, and they are more *punk* than other "punk" bands that stayed indie and/or calling Green Day "sell-outs" & "not punk"

Also; Sum 41, Good Charlotte, Blink 182, My Chemical Romance, Billy Talent, Underoath, 30 Seconds to Mars, Senses Fail, Taking Back Sunday, Chiodos, The Academy Is, and all these other horrid bands you call "punk". Aren't. And they wouldn't be around if it weren't for Green Day by the way. They ALL (any rock band from 1994 on) recongnize as a MAJOR influence on them-- even as a reason they started a band in the first place.

You don't realise it, but it's because of Green Day that you probably even HEARD of punk. Green Day are the reason the mainstream is accepting punk today, and if the mainstream didn't notice punk, than niether would you.

you all have what I ould describe as horrible taste in music. go check out refused, the lawrence arms, the flatliners and against me!. they're all good

GREEN DAY IS NOT PUNK.
ohmygosh.
They're not punk at all! What is considered punk today,is not punk.People need to realize that.
Punk would be The Ramones,The Sex Pistols, and The Clash.
They are REAL punk.

Some good punk bands include:

Bad Religion: Hardcore Punk
Descendents: Hardcore Punk
The Sex Pistols: Punk Rock
The Clash: Punk Rock
Ramones: Punk Rock
The Misfits: Hardcore Punk

I just love listening to you guys.. i mean come on, why should it matter which genre your favorite band is as long as they're good?

the reviewer doesnt know what punk is... real punk bands dont wear eyeliner and dress in ties. for real punks, it doesnt matter what you wear or what it you look like. real punk songs are all of your feelings and facts on a certain subject bunched up into one song, not about breaking up with somebody. Punks not a fashion!... its a state of mind, a way of thinking and a way of expressing yourself.

some good 80's hardcore punk bands are:
minor threat
bad brains
black flag
doa
7 seconds...

some good modern punk bands are:
strike anywhere
latterman
against me! (listen to their old stuff because new wave isn't very good)
bomb the music industry
propagandhi
NOFX

GO LISTEN! BUY CD's DOWNLOAD!!!!

note: you well never hear any of these bands on the radio

you are right,luv the review
