Karla Anderson Live Plus new CD's

This week on the Key of A, we revisit a lovely acoustic set by Edmonton's Karla Anderson, recorded nearly a year ago, as part of "Bands @ The Grand" in Calgary.

Plus, new music on cd by Deon Blyan, (check out this new video for one of the songs we're going to hear on the show) Reuben BullockBraids, Peter Manley Quartet, and the Don Berner Sextet (and a reminder that CBC is recording Don Berner Sextet's release show this Saturday night at the Yardbird Suite -- showtime 9pm!)

Acres of Dreams, part 2. Plus a Winter Roots& Blues preview!

This week, Key of A brings you part 2 of a very special live show called Acres of Dreams.
That title comes from an ad campaign from the late 1880's, trying to convince people to settle in the Canadian west.

Alberta songwriters Kris Demeanor, Wendy McNeill, James Keelaghan and Cadence Weapon  join the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra to sing their original songs -- inspired by ideas of immigration, moving west, leaving home and settling in a new place. The orchestral arrangements are by Dave Pierce, veteran of many Calgary Stampede Grandstand Shows, and recent Emmy Award winner for his work as music director of the Vancouver Olympic Games.

CBC recorded it last month as part of the 25th Annual High Performance Rodeo, Calgary's International Festival of the Arts. Kris Demeanor, who put the project together, will join Katherine in studio for a chat. You can also listen to the entire concert on CBC's Concerts on Demand website, here!

Plus, a preview of the 2nd Winter Roots and Blues Roundup coming up next week in Edmonton. The five-day festival opens Thursday, Feb 24th, with "The Women of Folkways" at the Yardbird Suite. To get you in the mood, we'll hear songs by Maria Dunn, John Rutherford, and Kat Danser.
