Axis of Conversation and Chris Gheran Share the Stage

This week on the Key of A, we'll hear a live show from this summer's Calgary Folk Music Festival.

The annual four-day festival brings hundreds of artists to Alberta from across Canada, the US, the UK, Europe and as far away as India and Australia, but Alberta artists are always a big part of the mix. This year 12 of the 64 acts came from Alberta, and new this year, the folk festival paired up some of Alberta artists for shared concerts.

We'll have one of those musical matchups for you this week on the show. It features the Calgary-based rock band, Axis of Conversation, trading songs and stories with local solo singer/songwriter Chris Gheran.

Along with that great live set, hear new jazz-influenced recordings by Edmonton's The Consonance, and the Dana Wylie Band.

New Release Saturday plus Dojo Workhorse Live!

Wow -- go on holidays for a week and come back to a big stack of new releases by Alberta artists!!!

This week on the show, we'll hear Jungle Noise from Calgary's Type Monkey Type; ethereal dance-pop longings from Rae Spoon's new release, Love is a Hunter; and high-spirited songwriting from multi-talented Edmonton theatre artist/rockstar/music producer Chris Wynters, from his new release of covers and originals, titled 2010-1982.

And if all that's not enough, how about a tip of the hat to Galaxie Rising Star winners and Western Canadian Music Award nominees, Dojo Workhorse? We'll hear the live set they played in March at the 2010 Alberta Music Series at the Engineered Air Theatre in Calgary!
