RCMP warning motorists after Highway 97 crash

RCMP are warning motorists that changing weather conditions can lead to deteriorating road conditions in a short time. The reminder comes in the wake of yesterday's serious accident on highway 97 near Quesnel. A head on crash sent two Prince George residents to hospital.
One has been flown to Vancouver with serious spinal and head injuries. Highway 97 was closed for several hours as a result.

Airplane passengers receive a scare

Passengers aboard a Pacific Coastal Airlines flight from Vancouver to Trail had a bit of a scare when they reached their destination yesterday afternoon. Smoke was billowing out of one of the engines after it made it to the gate. No one was injured and the airline is looking into what caused the fire.

Hydro establishes new way to fund environmental projects

B.C. Hydro has a new way of spending millions of dollars in the Kootenays. As part of its water licence, Hydro has to spend 4.5 million dollars a year on environmental projects. Last spring Hydro closed the Kootenay offices that managed that money. Now a new board will be established to allocate the money.

Another challenger enters the fray in the Shuswap


The former mayor of Spallumcheen is the latest Liberal to throw his hat into the ring in the bout to replace retiring MLA George Abbott in the Shuswap riding. Joining Will Hansma in the race for the Liberal nomination are former Salmon Arm mayor Marty Bootsma, businessman Greg Kyllo of Sicamous and Jordan Ross of Salmon Arm.
