Local slaughtering regulations questioned

The Township of Spallumcheen hopes farmers around Kamloops will join their fight to make it easier to start small slaughterhouses (Josh Pagé/CBC).

You could say "buy local" is the hot term when it comes to grocery shopping these days.

We like to think it's a good thing to buy food from farmers we can drive to, but is it too hard to buy meat and poultry that way?

The Township of Spallumcheen says so.  

It's  lobbying the province for change to slaughtering regulations, and also asking for support from other towns across the interior.

Christine Fraser is a councillor in Spallumcheen, and she speaks with host Shelley Joyce.
