But one vineyard in the Fraser Canyon is making a name for itself.
This year, Fort Berens winery, near Lillooet has won gold, silver and bronze at five wine competitions including the Los Angeles International Wine and Spirits Competition.
The vineyard is a dream realized for Heleen Pannekoek and Rolf de Bruin, who came to Canada from the Netherlands in 2005.
The originally hoped to buy a vineyard in the South Okanagan, but the high cost of land led them to Lillooet, where growing conditions were similar, but property prices much more reasonable.
Guest host Josh Pagé spoke to Rolf de Bruin about their story of success, and his hope for a burgeoning wine hub in the Fraser Canyon.
