This week the provincial government took a controversial step that moves the Jumbo Glacier Resort closer to reality.

It established a resort municipality in the wilderness west of Invermere, setting the stage for a mountain village at the foot of Jumbo Glacier.

The resort municipality comes complete with an appointed mayor, council and administrator -- all for a future community that currently has no residents, no buildings, and no tax base.

Stephen Smart is the CBC's legislative reporter, and Jonathan Fowlie covers provincial affairs for the Vancouver Sun.

Daybreak host Shelley Joyce talks to them about the politics behind the announcement.
